Google’s Androidify Avatar Creator is Back on Google Play

Google’s Androidify app was fun because it let you change the look of a Bugdroid to make it look like you or someone else. However, it hasn’t been updated since 2016, and it was removed from the Google Play Store in 2020. It was fun to use, but I think a lot of people got tired of it quickly and stopped using it, which is why Google finally stopped supporting it. It’s back, with a new name and more ways to make it your own.

Google just put up a new webpage where you can “make your own Android bot.” When the company updated Android’s brand identity last year, it gave the old Bugdroid a little more thought and care. It was turned into a more 3D-like robot instead of the flat 2D look that was used in older ads and the Androidify tool. Google said that the new robot mascot would look different, and this new tool for making avatars follows through on that promise. We hinted at it before, but it’s not Androidify. Instead, it’s a new web tool with the same spirit. It would be great to have an app, and one might be in the works, but we’re fine with just a web app for now.

Going to the web tool is all it takes to make your Android robot look exactly how you want it to. Its “material” (skin) can be changed, and it can also have different clothes and headgear put on it. You could even give it something to hold, like a tie, a guitar, or even an Xbox-like controller. You are the only one who can stop you.

We could see Google add more clothes and combinations that you can put on Bugdroids if they don’t drop the web app right away. Core parts like the eyes, antennae (ears), and general body build are the only things you can’t really change.

Go to the Android website to try out the new online app. It’s really fun.
