WhatsApp Conversations Can Now be Encrypted with a Secret Code.
WhatsApp added Chat Lock in May of last year. With a face scan, fingerprint, or password, you can keep your conversations private in the app. The company finally showed off a new secret code tool on Thursday. This feature makes your private chats even more secure.
You can hide the chats from your list of talks if you want to. You can only see them if you type your secret code into the app’s search bar. So, if someone gets your phone, they won’t be able to see the chats you’ve used it for. This makes them even harder to find. You can, of course, add them to your chat list as well; the secret code will still protect them.
You can use a different phone password for these chats as well. This way, bad people will need both your phone’s open password and this new chat-specific password to get in.
The Verge says that you can make your secret code out of letters, numbers, emojis, and special characters.
WhatsApp says that the new secret code function will be available all over the world in the next few months. It started rolling out today.
Of course, this is just the most recent modification to the Meta-owned chat service. You can now video call up to eight people on WhatsApp for Mac, which was added in August. In October, the company said that you could have two WhatsApp accounts on the same phone as long as it had two SIM cards. A couple of weeks ago, they made the large group chat feature public for up to 128 people.
